Great place, really nice and fun

Large room, great breakfast, great location right in Akakura, easy walk to the skiing, cool restaurants are close. Don't worry about the shared bath, you will take an onsen daily, (very addictive ), easily the best place we stayed, highly recommended

Great value for money!

Stayed here for a few nights and I wished we could have stayed longer! The hosts were absolutely lovely.. very welcoming and friendly, picked us up from and dropped us off at the train station and always checked in to see if we needed anything. The room was big and clean with a great heater to keep it cosy and warm. Able to do washing and drying as well which was a bonus. Breakfast each morning was amazing.. a mix of western food and traditional Japanese breakfast. There was a bar area downstairs with a fire, TV, free tea and coffee and a massage chair which was always nice to sit in when getting home from a day skiing! The location was perfect, right in the heart of the village but tucked down a side street so it was nice and quiet at night time. Besides the traditional Japanese bathing facilities (with a great onsen!) there was also a private western shower. I will definitely stay here again next time i visit Japan, it was fantastic!

Absolutely Awesome

Loved it here! Was a comfortable way to experience a new culture! Right in the middle of town and only a very short walk to Akakura Kanko and Onsen ski areas! Breakfast each morning always hit the spot and got the day of to a great start. The lounge was a great spot to sit back and relax to talk about the day with other guests! Just a great place to stay and will defiantly come back and stay here!

Best Japan Experience of the Trip.

Akakura Akarien is traditional, affordable Japanese accommodation and our host Yumiko was the most incredible woman who made our trip. The room was really spacious with Tatami flooring, shoji and futon beds, as well as a little table set up with green tea. The hot onsen spa sourced from a natural hot spring was also perfect after a day up the mountain snowboarding to relax the legs and body. The location is in walking distance of the awesome ski field and restaurants and hire shops. Breakfast was the best we had in Japan for 1000 yen and is well worth booking in. Yumiko was just lovely, picking us up and dropping us off to the train station and ski fields and one night when we were too late and out of peak season for any restaurants to be open, Yumiko whipped us up the most delicious ramen we've had. This accommodation experience was one of the best I've had in my life. Definitely book in here.

Homely experience at the foot of Mt Myoko

My partner and I decided on a couple of days snowboarding to compliment our Japanese holiday visiting the major cities. We were very late in the season to be snowboarding but conditions were beautiful spring conditions and the resort was quiet with no queues. The Akakura Akarien was a great place to stay and the host Yumiko was fantastic. We got transport to and from Myoko Kogen station when required, the breakfast she cooked was an amazing fusion between Western cooked breakfast and Japanese. The hotel had its own onsen (hot springs) which were perfect before and after hitting the mountain. I highly recommend this place for couples, but it would be an awesome family or group spot too. We will defiantly aim to come back armed with friends.
